March 12-13, 2011 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, In : Clear Lake

Fished the Holder Ford Tourny at Clear Lake with Chris Z.  Took 27th place out of 155 boats.
First day we stayed north and fished the mouths of sloughs with ripbaits, Dry Creek Tubes and LV500's.  We weighed 24.9 lbs and caught around 15 bass that day.
Next day we caught a couple fish in the spots from the day before, and also flipped one on a jig in the keys, caught one on a ripbait in Konocti Bay, and flipped a few in Rodman Slough with a Brush Hog and a jig.  Ended up catching 18.5 lbs that ...

March 20-22, 2010 Clear Lake

Fished south the first day, spinnerbaits and flipping jigs worked best.  Myself and two others caught 13 bass largest was 5 pounds.  Second day started at the Keys and caught nothing, then fished north between Adobe Creek and Konocti Vista Casino. Caught 10 bass on swimbaits (Osprey and Basstrix in light hitch), and Brush Hogs fished out of the tulies.  Last day started at Lands End Marina and caught a couple out from the mouth on Brush Hogs, then fished the very north end of Lakeport.  Drop ...

March 7, 2010 Clear Lake

We launched at 8:30 at the Konocti Vista Casino. It’s sunny, but still quite cold. Before we take off, we decide to make a few casts in the harbor.  I gave Charlie the front of the boat, as he was making casts to the deeper pieces wood ahead of the boat, while I was flipping a jig way up in the wood.  After only a few minutes of fishing, Charlie caught a nice 5.5 pounder on a Baby Brush Hog fished on a shakey head.  We bounced around and fished a few more spots that had deeper wood that was...

March 3-4, 2010 Clear Lake

Wednesday was brutally cold.  The rain was coming down pretty hard on the drive up, but at 8am when we launched the sun popped out, for a few hours anyway.  With frozen hands we made our way from Lakeport to the Clear Lake State Park.  We begin by throwing ripbaits (Lucky Craft 128 Pointer), and swimbaits (Osprey and Basstrix).  We cover water quickly and make sure not to waist to much time in one spot.  The water color and temperature would fluctuate drastically in the matter of 100 yards.  ...

February 6, 2010 Clear Lake

We launched the boat at the Clear Lake Oaks at around 6:45.  Because of all the storms we’ve had these past few weeks, the lake has come up several feet.  Surprisingly the water in the lower part of the Rattlesnake Arm is still quite clear (3 feet).  Up north though I hear it’s much dirtier.  We started off throwing tubes and shakey heads on some of the rock piles just outside the keys, and around Rattlesnake Island.  We bounced around from one rock pile to the next, and noticed that a fe...

November 1, 2009 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Saturday, November 7, 2009, In : Clear Lake

We launch out of Red Bud Park, at the south end of Clear Lake, at around 9 am.  The water is much clearer compared to last week, with the algae bloom being a little less intense.  We start off fishing jigs shallow on rocky banks in Jago Bay.  By 10 am we each get a couple bass, but nothing larger than 2.5 pounds. We then fish some deeper rock (10-20) around Wheeler, Gooseneck, and Frasier Points.  We caught a few more bass a drop shot and shaky head, but still smaller fish (1-2 lbs).  Decid...

October 3, 2009 Clear Lake

Topwater baits caught a few nice bass today. A 5.5 on a Reaction Innovations Vixen, and a couple 4's on a Lunker Punker.  There was a hard north wind blowing, so we fished the area between Konocti Resort and Buckingham Point.  Mostly just a big flat with docks and scattered deep weed beds.  Tubes and jigs also caught a few fish on the rockpiles, but almost all the good ones that were protected from the wind had a boat on them.

Stayed in the Red Bud Arm both days.  We fished many rockpiles and ledges between Gooseneck Point and Windmill Point.  When the wind blew crankbaits and spinnerbaits worked well.  Shad and chartreuse colors worked well.  When the wind died we switched to dartheads and jigs, brown/orange and brown/purple.  We also caught a couple on buzzbaits near Konocti.  About 20 bass each day,  with the largest 5 going 18-19 pounds each day.  Lots of three pounders.

February 15-16,2009 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : Clear Lake
Rainy and cold with a south wind blowing hard on both days.  We fished the protected south tip of the Rattlesnake Arm the first day, and the lower part of the Red Bud Arm on the second day.  Using tubes and jigs, we caught several bass on rock piles in 5-15 feet of water.  Dark colors worked best black/ blue & brown/ blue.  Our largest 5 went around 25 pounds each day.
