February 22, 2011 Lake Anderson

Great day of fishing, 27 bass for three anglers.  All were at least 12" and the largest was around 2.5 lbs.  Jigs, tubes and crankbaits worked best.  Water temp was 50-52 and visibility was 4ft main body and 2ft in the coves.  We fished rock piles with flats and ledges in 5-15 feet of water.

Been bass fishing at Lake Anderson four times since the beginning of the year, and every time out the bite has been pretty good.  The water level is low due to possible repairs to the dam this winter.  The water clarity is around 2-4 ft., and has been clearing since the beginning of the month, now that we’ve had a couple weeks without a storm.  The bass definitely like these sunny days.  They seem to be most active during the middle of the day, on south facing banks with rock.  I see fish s...

Lots of fish but nothing over 1.5 pounds,  Drop shoting robo worms in anywhere from 5-50 feet was the most productive technique.  Fish were deep in the morning and moved shallower in the afternoon when the wind picked up.  Spinnerbiats caught a couple as well.  The lake is dropping fast because they plan on doing some work on the damn in a couple weeks.  The lake will close once the work begins.

Same bite as yesterday only less boats on the water, and more bass in the boat.  Around 40 total.  Jigs, drop shots, spoons, and small swimbaits all produce fish.  20-50 feet of water out on the main lake.

After having a little trouble with the people doing the mussel inspections, we finally got on the water at around 9am.  I focused at my graph as we pulled up our first stop, and quickly realized how many bass were suspending chasing bait.  During the first hour, we had non-stop action.  We found a huge school of bass.  On a 100 yard stretch of bank, from 20-50 feet of water my fishfinder was filled with balls of bait with bass slashing right through them.  All parts of the water column were ...

An unusual September storm just passed a couple days ago.  We were faced with post frontal conditions, but it was still quite warm for being 8:30 in the morning.  There was absolutely no wind and the water was quite clear.  Our first stop was on a big weedy flat that had a nice ledge that broke off into the main lake channel.  A few bass were busting bait, but they would not hit any of the topwater baits we threw at them.  I should have maybe scaled down the size of our lures. The baitfish th...

The first big storm of the year rolled through last week.  It was quite cold and nasty.  Once last weeks storm passed, it warmed up quite fast.  Having three consecutive days of warm weather, I figured flipping wood should be a solid afternoon pattern.

We put the boat in around 12:30, and worked our way up the main lake, jumping from one piece of wood to the next.  The water was still quite cold, 54 degrees, so we made sure to work our baits slow. Starting out with Brush Hogs and Ji...

Finally, some rain.  Charlie and I managed to get out and do some fishing just before our first big storm of the year.  Because of the last few small storms, the water is already starting to dirty up.  Our first stop was Packwood Cove.  The bass are just starting their transition from winter to their pre-spawn mode.  We caught a few two pounders fishing 10-15 feet just out from the spawning flat in the back of the cove.  Small rock piles and wood were both holding fish.  Towards th...

Not much has changed since my last visit a week ago.  With temperatures in the low 70’s and still no rain, it’s sure doesn’t feel like winter.   Mark, Harley and I start the day off fishing a creek channel up north.  It’s 9am, and the water temp is around 53 degrees.  We made a few casts with reaction baits, (spinnerbaits, ripbaits, crankbaits, etc.) but nothing.  Slowing down with a tube and Carolina rig, we picked up a couple, but missed even more.  Throughout the day we lear...

Sure seems like it's going to be another dry winter.  Lake Anderson seems like one of the few likes that might survive a rainless spring.  The island top right outside the 5mph zone is still submerged, which means we have at least another 40 feet until the end of the ramp.  Which isn't to bad for this time of the year.  Other bodies of water such as Lake Oroville are in survival mode, 240 feet and dropping!  Everyone needs to get outside and do a little rain dance.

Total of three peop...
