March 26-27, 2011 Lake Sonoma

Posted by Rus Snyders on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, In : Lake Sonoma

Saturday Hank and I got on the water around 9am.  Lake Sonoma came up about 10 feet since last time I was out here a couple weeks ago, and it was already at full pool then.  There are submerged oak trees that are usually never it the water. All the storms we’ve had lately really muddied up the arms, but the main body still had around 3 foot visibility.  Hank caught a three pounder first thing on a 3/8 oz jig with a smallie beaver.  It came out of 20 feet of water on a rock pile near the ma...

February 26 & 28, 2011 Lake Sonoma

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, March 3, 2011, In : Lake Sonoma

Saturday the 26 myself, and two other anglers, Nick and Steve, got to the Lake Sonoma at around 7am.   We had post-frontal conditions, with partly cloudy skies and a light north wind.  The water temp was 52 degrees with 2-4 foot clarity.  Our first stop was a big flat with a few scattered rock piles, in the Warm Springs Arm.  The bite was on, and in the first 20 minutes of the day we landed 7 bass, a mix of large-mouth and small-mouth.  We fished 3/8 oz. jigs and Dry Creek Tubes fished in 1...

Sunday morning I arrive at the ramp, and find there is an ABA tournament going on.  We wait for the 30 boats to launch, and then take off.  It’s been warm and sunny all week, but the water temp on the main lake is still in the upper 50’s.  The back of Dry Creek was our first stop.  We start off throwing Brush Hogs, jigs and drop shots on a deeper rocky ledge that was near a spawning flat.  The fish were schooled up there pretty good.  We worked the area for two hours and caught 9 bass, ...

March 24-25, 2009 Lake Sonoma

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : Lake Sonoma
It’s 8am, Max his father Carl and I pull up to the ramp. The weather is perfect and all of us are excited to get out on the water.  For them, this is the beginning of a five day adventure.  The first two days will be spent teaching them the basics of bass fishing since they are relatively new to the sport.  Then they will be fishing from a canoe they brought for the next three days.  We were committed to the north side of the lake since we wanted to find areas within a canoe ride of the...
