Saturday Hank and I got on the water around 9am. Lake Sonoma came up about 10 feet since
last time I was out here a couple weeks ago, and it was already at full pool
then. There are submerged oak
trees that are usually never it the water. All the storms we’ve had lately
really muddied up the arms, but the main body still had around 3 foot
visibility. Hank caught a three
pounder first thing on a 3/8 oz jig with a smallie beaver. It came out of 20 feet of water on a
rock pile near the ma... Continue reading ...

Fished the Holder Ford Tourny at Clear Lake with Chris Z. Took 27th place out of 155 boats. First day we stayed north and fished the mouths of sloughs with ripbaits, Dry Creek Tubes and LV500's. We weighed 24.9 lbs and caught around 15 bass that day. Next day we caught a couple fish in the spots from the day before, and also flipped one on a jig in the keys, caught one on a ripbait in Konocti Bay, and flipped a few in Rodman Slough with a Brush Hog and a jig. Ended up catching 18.5 lbs that ... Continue reading ...

Saturday the 26 myself, and two other anglers,
Nick and Steve, got to the Lake Sonoma at around 7am. We had post-frontal conditions, with partly cloudy
skies and a light north wind. The
water temp was 52 degrees with 2-4 foot clarity. Our first stop was a big flat with a few scattered rock
piles, in the Warm Springs Arm.
The bite was on, and in the first 20 minutes of the day we landed 7
bass, a mix of large-mouth and small-mouth. We fished 3/8 oz. jigs and Dry Creek Tubes fished in 1... Continue reading ...

Great day of fishing, 27 bass for three anglers. All were at least 12" and the largest was around 2.5 lbs. Jigs, tubes and crankbaits worked best. Water temp was 50-52 and visibility was 4ft main body and 2ft in the coves. We fished rock piles with flats and ledges in 5-15 feet of water. Continue reading ...

Despite the freezing temperatures, the bass fishing at Lake Sonoma was surprisingly really good. I was supposed to head up to Clear Lake to do some filming on Friday, but Hwy 29 was closed because of nearly a foot of snow on the summit from the previous day. Luckily my buddy Hank was able to get a “sick day” from work, so he met me at Lake Sonoma at around 10:30 am. We were in between storms, the sky was clear, there was a light south wind, and you could still see last nights full moon... Continue reading ...

Been bass fishing at Lake Anderson four times since the beginning of the year, and every time out the bite has been pretty good. The water level is low due to possible repairs to the dam this winter. The water clarity is around 2-4 ft., and has been clearing since the beginning of the month, now that we’ve had a couple weeks without a storm. The bass definitely like these sunny days. They seem to be most active during the middle of the day, on south facing banks with rock. I see fish s... Continue reading ...

Lots of fish but nothing over 1.5 pounds, Drop shoting robo worms in anywhere from 5-50 feet was the most productive technique. Fish were deep in the morning and moved shallower in the afternoon when the wind picked up. Spinnerbiats caught a couple as well. Had a 8-10 pounder hit a topwater five times but didn't hook up. Switched to hair jigs and fish traps and caught 15 or so fish, 6 or 7 keeper sized (18"). Steve caught the largest, around 6 pounds. Despite the windy conditions, fishing was decent. Sunday we fished around Big Break, Franks Tract, and Little Mandeville Island and caught 10 bass. It’s been warm and sunny all week, but the water temp on the main lake is still in the upper 50’s. The back of Dry Creek was our first stop. We start off throwing Brush Hogs, jigs and drop shots on a deeper rocky ledge that was near a spawning flat. The fish were schooled up there pretty good. We were hit with a bad cold front about a week ago. That storm only produced about an inch of rain, which wasn't enough to muddy up anything (which is good). Right after that storm passed there was about three or four nights straight where the lows were in the 20's. I'm sure at that point all the fish (stripers, largemouth, and baitfish) were all in a state of shock. NOBODY, was on the water those few days, but I'm sure it would have been tough out there. Finally, some rain.
Charlie and I managed to get out and do some fishing just before our
first big storm of the year.
Because of the last few small storms, the water is already starting to
dirty up. Our first stop was
Packwood Cove. The bass are just
starting their transition from winter to their pre-spawn mode. We caught a few two pounders fishing
10-15 feet just out from the spawning flat in the back of the cove. Small rock piles and wood were both
holding fish. Towards th... Continue reading ...

Not much has changed since my last visit a week ago. With temperatures in the low 70’s and
still no rain, it’s sure doesn’t feel like winter. Mark, Harley and I start the day off fishing a creek
channel up north. It’s 9am, and
the water temp is around 53 degrees.
We made a few casts with reaction baits, (spinnerbaits, ripbaits,
crankbaits, etc.) but nothing.

day we lear... Continue reading ...

Other bodies of water such as Lake Oroville are in survival mode, 240 feet and dropping! Everyone needs to get outside and do a little rain dance.
Total of three peop... Continue reading ...

Fishing the first half of the day on the main lake in front of Potters Cove and Canyon Creek, we caught 7 fish. Two of the bass were around 2.5 pounds and were caught on jigs. The others were caught on 6 inch roboworms on a dart head. Mid day we ran all the way to the back of the Middle Fork and caught about 20 more spotted bass on tubes. The key was to find the sandy washes between the big boulders. We would throw our baits to the sand pockets, work the lure down to about 10-15 ... Continue reading ...

Caught about a dozen fish from 1-2.5 pounds. All three species were caught. Largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted. We stayed around the narrows and fished tubes, jigs, and dartheads on main lake points. Continue reading ...
