February 26 & 28, 2011 Lake Sonoma

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, March 3, 2011, In : Lake Sonoma

Saturday the 26 myself, and two other anglers, Nick and Steve, got to the Lake Sonoma at around 7am.   We had post-frontal conditions, with partly cloudy skies and a light north wind.  The water temp was 52 degrees with 2-4 foot clarity.  Our first stop was a big flat with a few scattered rock piles, in the Warm Springs Arm.  The bite was on, and in the first 20 minutes of the day we landed 7 bass, a mix of large-mouth and small-mouth.  We fished 3/8 oz. jigs and Dry Creek Tubes fished in 1...

January 17, 2011 Lake Anderson

Been bass fishing at Lake Anderson four times since the beginning of the year, and every time out the bite has been pretty good.  The water level is low due to possible repairs to the dam this winter.  The water clarity is around 2-4 ft., and has been clearing since the beginning of the month, now that we’ve had a couple weeks without a storm.  The bass definitely like these sunny days.  They seem to be most active during the middle of the day, on south facing banks with rock.  I see fish s...

November 12, 2010 Lake Anderson

Lots of fish but nothing over 1.5 pounds,  Drop shoting robo worms in anywhere from 5-50 feet was the most productive technique.  Fish were deep in the morning and moved shallower in the afternoon when the wind picked up.  Spinnerbiats caught a couple as well.  The lake is dropping fast because they plan on doing some work on the damn in a couple weeks.  The lake will close once the work begins.

May 9-10, 2010 California Delta

Posted by Rus Snyders on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, In : California Delta
Despite the windy conditions, fishing was decent.  Sunday we fished around Big Break, Franks Tract, and Little Mandeville Island and caught 10 bass.  It was slow in the morning, but once the tide started to push in, we caught fish. Frogs worked when we got out of the wind, and spinnerbaits worked on the windier banks.  At the end of the day I caught a 6.5 on a senko. Monday we fished around Little Franks Tract and caught 15 bass up to 3.5 pounds.  Chartreuse spinnerbaits and crankbaits worked...

March 26,27,29-2010 California Delta

Friday, we launched out of Russo’s Marina at around 7:00 am.  This past week has been the first warm stable week of the spring.  There was a couple ours left until the bottom of the tide, so we focused on offshore grass in Franks Tract.  Throwing LV 500’s and spinnerbaits, we catch a couple small bass (maybe keepers).  We move south and fish a couple spot off Old River but have no luck.  At the bottom of the tide we stop at Cruiser Haven and look for bed fish.  After 10 minutes of frustra...

March 20-22, 2010 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, In : Clear Lake
Fished south the first day, spinnerbaits and flipping jigs worked best.  Myself and two others caught 13 bass largest was 5 pounds.  Second day started at the Keys and caught nothing, then fished north between Adobe Creek and Konocti Vista Casino. Caught 10 bass on swimbaits (Osprey and Basstrix in light hitch), and Brush Hogs fished out of the tulies.  Last day started at Lands End Marina and caught a couple out from the mouth on Brush Hogs, then fished the very north end of Lakeport.  Drop ...

March 11-13, 2010 California Delta

Posted by Rus Snyders on Monday, March 15, 2010, In : California Delta

It’s been a cold week for all the anglers fishing the Bassmaster Elite Series.  By looking at the weights these last few days, it’s obvious the weather has affected the fishing.  Thursday we launched out of Orowood at 9:30, just as the tide was starting to come in.  We made a short run to Holland Riverside Marina and caught a few small bass on spinnerbaits.  They were positioned on the deeper points right at the mouth of the marina.  We then went to another similar spot just up the main...

March 3-4, 2010 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, In : Clear Lake
Wednesday was brutally cold.  The rain was coming down pretty hard on the drive up, but at 8am when we launched the sun popped out, for a few hours anyway.  With frozen hands we made our way from Lakeport to the Clear Lake State Park.  We begin by throwing ripbaits (Lucky Craft 128 Pointer), and swimbaits (Osprey and Basstrix).  We cover water quickly and make sure not to waist to much time in one spot.  The water color and temperature would fluctuate drastically in the matter of 100 yards.  ...

February 6, 2010 Clear Lake

Posted by Rus Snyders on Sunday, February 7, 2010, In : Clear Lake
We launched the boat at the Clear Lake Oaks at around 6:45.  Because of all the storms we’ve had these past few weeks, the lake has come up several feet.  Surprisingly the water in the lower part of the Rattlesnake Arm is still quite clear (3 feet).  Up north though I hear it’s much dirtier.  We started off throwing tubes and shakey heads on some of the rock piles just outside the keys, and around Rattlesnake Island.  We bounced around from one rock pile to the next, and noticed that a fe...

September 3-4, 2009 Clear Lake

Stayed in the Red Bud Arm both days.  We fished many rockpiles and ledges between Gooseneck Point and Windmill Point.  When the wind blew crankbaits and spinnerbaits worked well.  Shad and chartreuse colors worked well.  When the wind died we switched to dartheads and jigs, brown/orange and brown/purple.  We also caught a couple on buzzbaits near Konocti.  About 20 bass each day,  with the largest 5 going 18-19 pounds each day.  Lots of three pounders.

March 26-27, 2009 California Delta

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : California Delta

It’s 6:30 Thursday morning and Tong, Tim and I launch out of Russo’s Marina.  We make a 15-minute run south and fish the mouth of a dead end slough near Orwood.  The tide had just peaked and started to push out.  Using a Shell Cracker on a tulle point, a nice bass swirled on the swimbait, but missed it.  As the tide continued to push out, we moved into Rock Slough, but found no action.  Finally we caught a couple on weighted senkos on the outside of Mandeville Island.  Around 1pm ...

March 24-25, 2009 Lake Sonoma

Posted by Rus Snyders on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : Lake Sonoma
It’s 8am, Max his father Carl and I pull up to the ramp. The weather is perfect and all of us are excited to get out on the water.  For them, this is the beginning of a five day adventure.  The first two days will be spent teaching them the basics of bass fishing since they are relatively new to the sport.  Then they will be fishing from a canoe they brought for the next three days.  We were committed to the north side of the lake since we wanted to find areas within a canoe ride of the...
